ABOUT
Mental Health is the Foundation of All Health
Carastar Health is a public, nonprofit corporation providing comprehensive services to support evolving mental health needs across four counties in central Alabama: Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, and Lowndes. We believe that mental health is the foundation of all health. We help ensure the best possible daily function of people within their community, while working to erase stigma. Carastar seeks to offer improved independence, encouragement, and hope.

A Positive Approach that Leads to Acceptance
Carastar emphasizes behavioral health services guided not by fear, but by a positive approach that customizes plans of action. We help individuals gain control over their own choices. Carastar Health professionals work in tandem with law enforcement, civic leaders, lawmakers, and community voices. Together, they give assistance along with access to resources to bring understanding to the question, “Why am I experiencing this?” That understanding leads to increased acceptance of self and others. That’s our vision, and what Carastar is all about.

Governance to Ensure Excellence
Carastar Health is governed by a 24-member board of directors appointed by local governments under the Authority of Alabama Act 310 of the 1967 Alabama Legislature. Carastar is certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) as a Community Mental Health Center. Also, Carastar holds membership in the National Council for Community Behavioral Health Care and the Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards.
Fees are charged for services provided. However, some individuals may qualify for a reduced fee based upon family income and size. Some insurances may be billed for eligible services.
